Admission
Students who apply before the priority scholarship deadline are considered for admission to the University Honors Program and the Engineering Honors Program. A select number of students who show exceptional merit will be invited to interview for competitive scholarships to attend Mercer, and some students who interview for scholarships will be invited into the First-Year Honors Experience for University Honors or Engineering Honors.
Students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Stetson-Hatcher School of Business, Tift College of Education, Townsend School of Music, Georgia Baptist College of Nursing, or College of Health Professions who successfully complete the First-Year Honors Experience may apply to continue in the University Honors Program, and students in the School of Engineering who successfully complete Engineering Honors 101 and 102 may continue in the Engineering Honors Program. Exceptional students not in First-Year Honors Experience and accomplished transfer students may also be eligible to apply to the University Honors Program through a selective process.
Students are required to maintain a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA and satisfactory course work in honors classes to remain in the University Honors Program or a minimum 3.3 cumulative GPA and satisfactory course work in honors classes to remain in the Engineering Honors Program. Students who fall below 3.5 or have unsatisfactory course work will be placed on probationary status for one semester. Students who fall below 3.5 or have unsatisfactory course work for a second semester will be removed from the program. Such cases will be handled on an individual basis in consultation with the University Honors Program Director.
Students who complete the University Honors Program or the Engineering Honors Program will graduate with university honors, which will be listed on their diploma and their transcript, and they will receive special recognition at University Commencement.
